Subject
- Main goals
Subject
The subject
of the project is the development of an integrated system of computing
tools,
which, in combination with a parallel framework of methodologies
and technical specifications, will provide an infrastructure suitable
for a rational and sustainable management of water resource systems
at a variety of scales. The main deliverable will be an operational
software package of general use, which is evaluated and tested
on two pilot case studies, concerning hydrosystems in Greek territory
with varying characteristics regarding the infrastructures, the
climatic
regime and the regulatory framework for water management.
Main goals
- Promoting the collaboration between research organisations (National Technical
University of Athens) and private companies (NAMA, Marathon Data
Systems, SOGREAH, PPC, EYDAP, and EYDAP Asset Company), which aims
at producing innovative products for a rational management of scarce
natural resources such as water;
- Promoting convergence to the EU strategy in regard to its policy
in the field of the environment, as expressed in the recent
Directive 2000/60; this calls for sustainable water management
and protection
of aquatic ecosystems, and requires integrated management plans
at the basin level;
- Promoting the dissemination of information and the active involvement
of many players in the design of hydraulic works and the
decision-making process in water resources management, through
the use of new
technologies;
- Creating new jobs of high specialisation in the private sector,
and more specifically in state-of-the-art scientific fields,
such as water resources management and informatics.
